CANstruction 2017 - Rock CAN Roll Theme

Labarre had the pleasure of competing yesterday in this year's CANstruction. This year's theme was Rock CAN Roll!

Our piece is in the Shaw Center and our competition is in the lobby of the Louisiana Art and Science Museum across the street. Our sculpture is named Rock'CAN out!

Sculpture description: Rockin’ out can build up a big hunger – so we’ve built a classic guitar (loosely inspired by George Harrison’s Lucy guitar) on a vinyl record in front of a sheet of music with hearty ingredients. While Eric Clapton made Lucy “Gently Weep”, we hope our guitar CAN help those in need find comfort in sustenance.

The exhibits are open to the public and People's Choice Voting starts Friday August 25th so please vote for us!

This event is a charity event where all canned goods used to build the sculptures are donated to the local food bank (in this case: Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank). We were especially happy that our first year competing was to help out another local entity that was affected by the Flood of 2016. If you would like to donate to them online, click here.

Special thanks goes to the Shaw Center for the Arts for being excellent hosts to us, AIA Baton Rouge for coordinating the event and helping us not be so intimidated for our first build, and to Labarre's sponsors who helped us afford all those cans: La Capitol Federal Credit Union, Pelican State Credit Union, CDI Solutions, Innovance Inc., Quality Engineering & Surveying, LLC. and donors through BNI - Business Boomers of Denham Springs: CJ Brown, 5 Star Printing, BJ Pawn, ERC, and Whitney Bank.
